This style was the result of several years work as a Yoga therapist for the Endocrine and Diabetic unit of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, participating in a diabetes research project led by Consultant David Kerr. The study investigated links between the level of dependency on insulin injections and the systematic practice of Yoga and the results were published in the Medical Journal.  Please go to: http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/98016792/abstract? for further information.

Recently Elvira expanded New Forest Yoga to include a Teacher’s Training Course that has been certified by the IYR.  This is now in it’s second year and places are available for the 2010 course.

David and Elvira Gilliam

Alongside this practice, David undertook the study of Tai Chi Ch'uan with Shifu Kuo, a world renowned Kung Fu Master based in San Francisco's Chinatown.
For over 30 years David practiced on a daily basis, becoming a Martial Art Master while establishing a teaching studio in Santa Monica.  Alongside this pursuit, he continued to practice Yoga with qualified teachers at Yoga institutions along the California coast.

DAVID GILLIAM first began his association with Yoga while studying at the American Conservatory Theatre where there was a great emphasis placed on movement studies.
Part of the curriculum involved Yoga and the effect the practice had on the actor’s fluidity and state of mind.

Finally, David found more contentment within Yoga as it seemed to calm the soul and bring a deeper sense of abiding relaxation than what was being achieved with Tai Chi Chuan. As a creative writer, he found a connection to areas of thought and vision within him self and the universe that flowed more freely with the Yoga practice.
This relationship with creative energy and regular Yoga practice is an area David continues to explore while writing and producing illustrated guides to energetic Yoga practice in static positions at the office or in the car.

“Living in the New Forest offers the opportunity to connect with the natural world through Yoga practice, to stimulate original thinking and find enrichment with a follow on walk in the woods. Our hope is that we can collect a gathering of like-minded souls who wish to deepen their understanding of themselves through the practice of Yoga in the Forest and find a unity of mind and spirit that is rewarding and refreshing."
